Chapter Members:
We have come full circle since the beginning of school in September 2007. We have had some good times…now we’re facing some bad times. We know that layoffs are the topics throughout the district. At the school board meeting on May 06, 2008, there was job classification affected by the district decision to help balance the budget. There’s lack of funds/lack of work and abolishment. Just remember the classification position is the driving force. CSEA Leadership is here to make sure the affected employee rights are carried out in accordance with the Personnel Commission Rules & Regulations and California law. Our Labor Representative d’Ann Madore gives a detailed explanation of the layoff procedure. Please read her June Article.
We like to thank our negotiation teams Unit “A” and Unit “B” for a job well done. The Contract is near to completion.
Where are we going!
As we are preparing for the close of this school year (June 12, 2008), those of us that’s scheduled for summer break should take the opportunity and go to the beach to see the sun set or tide come in; make a date with your children and go bowling or if you’re brave enough go ice skating or roller blading. Enjoy the time so you can return fresh and rested. Those of us yet working will also need to get some “Me Time” off for some rest and relaxation. A change of scenery is much needed. Be good to yourself.
Did everyone enjoy his or her CSEW day? I hope things went well and all of you that came out enjoyed the festivities set-up just for you. Let’s hear from you!
SPOTLIGHT TO MEMBERS: I will be spotlighting members each month. If you know of a co-worker, friend, etc. that you think might be deserving of this acknowledgement. Please call me (562) 426-6091-1#.
June’s Spotlight Falls On: I like to give recognition to people while they can appreciate it, in doing so, I recognize Mr. Dan Ewaskey who has stepped up to the plate as Unit “B” VP. Dan is a CSEA veteran and the right person I can go to when needing information for past procedures or representing a member. Dan is a straight shooter and tells it like it is. He won’t sugarcoat it to make it look right. We respect Dan for holding up the Unit “B” members. I like to encourage all Unit “B” members to support your VP and attend his interest meetings or the chapter meetings. He will be proud if you do.
Congratulation Site Rep Coordinator Patricia Jackson for her success as she held her second Site Rep Training April 30, 2008 at TRC Rm. #3. Trainer was our Labor Representative d’Ann Madore. I’m told there was a lot of new site reps and I for one am very happy. Keep up the good work!
Congratulation to Superintendent Christopher J. Steinhauser: Superintendent Steinhauser received the 2008 President’s Distinguished Service Award given at the 2008 Alumni Awards Banquet of California State University, Long Beach. This award was presented on May 8, 2008 at the Long Beach Hyatt Hotel. Myself along with his wife Alida, Michael Day of TALB, Board Member Jon Meyer and Mary Stanton, Assistant Superintendent’s of Middle and K-8 Schools Gwen Matthews and Human Resource Service Ruth Ashley, Director of Public Information Chris Eftychiou, Co-Principal Cynthia Terry, Retirees Janet Dominger and Cynthia Stockinger and many, many, more LBUSD family and friends are so very proud of LBUSD Superintendent Steinhauser. Of course, he’s always humble and thanks the LBUSD family for helping him accomplish what he was awarded for. But we know him to be a great leader who has guided this district to heights of recognition nation wide. Superintendent Steinhauser, you have exhibited exemplary service and we THANK YOU!
